Death is not a Life Threatening Condition

My Mystical Encounter with Light

One night before I went to bed I began to experience some chest pain.  It would come and go.  I had been diagnosed with heart disease, had a heart stent in one artery, and had experienced similar pain on many occasions so I didn’t pay too much attention to it.

The next morning, I was still in some discomfort.  While lying in the floor, I suddenly felt a pain in the center of my chest that continued to get worse and I felt like a ton of weight was resting on my chest.  The pain became unbearable.  The pain quickly intensified to the point where I felt I couldn’t stand another second and still remain conscious.  I grabbed my chest and cried, “God I can’t take this pain!”  At the instant I was convinced I was going to die of a heart attack I heard a loud sound like the clapping of hands and then a “whoosh” sound and I was out of my body.  The pain was instantly gone and I felt completely at peace.  I found myself above and to the left of my physical body looking down at it.  All of this happened very quickly.  There appeared a long thin swirling dark purple vortex – much like a tornado - with the small end attached to my forehead and the long end winding out as far as I could see.

I do not recall ever being in that tunnel or vortex but I next found myself in completely peaceful, gentle silence in the presence of a growing brilliant white/blue light.  Every attempt I have ever made to describe this scene has failed because I cannot find the right words.  After each explanation, I find myself inwardly saying, “No, that’s not exactly how it was.”  But there are no words to do a better job that I can find.

The light was totally and completely filled with love and acceptance.  I had the urge to give up my own thoughts and ego and merge into the Light.  I wanted to be one with that Light more than I wanted anything else in the world.  I wanted to stay forever in that place of warm love, acceptance and kindness.

Several years prior to this experience, I had undergone a very painful divorce.  I had tried everything within my power to save my marriage and I had failed.  Many nights found me sobbing and praying that God would somehow show me how to make my marriage work.  My chief sorrow was the fact that I had two daughters, 14 and 5 years old and I would be breaking up their home and destroying their security.  I love them more than anything on earth and I wanted to keep their world safe and intact.  On the day my wife told me that either I must leave or she would leave with the kids, I felt it would be best for my kids if I left so they could stay in their home and their lives not be completely uprooted.  My oldest daughter was old enough to grasp the situation although she took upon herself a lot of guilt and blame for something she had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with.  She was a wonderful daughter in every way.  My youngest daughter, however, clearly did not understand what was going on in her life.  She was only five years old and I loved her with all my heart. She was my precious baby. I was her Daddy . . . her protector . . . her provider.  She came into the bedroom as I was packing my suitcase to leave. She was a proud little angel and she did not cry in front of others. She choked back the tears as she tugged gently at my shirt sleeve and spoke just above a whisper with a tiny quivering voice, "But Daddy, I don’t want us to not be a family anymore . . ."  There are no words to tell you how much sorrow filled my heart in that moment.  I swept both my daughter into a single embrace and shook with sobs as I told them how sorry I was.  And I would carry that grief and sorrow in my soul for many painful years.

Now back to my experience.  As I stood before this loving light of complete love, the light spoke to me though there were no audible words.  It was clear and distinct but it was entirely through what I guess you would call telepathy.  The voice said, “Give me your grief.”  The words were loving and tender but very clear.

At this point, so that you can understand my story, I need to say that when I was a little boy my father sometimes verbally and physically abused me.  When he lost his temper, he lost control and did things I am sure he regretted.  The verbal abuse left me feeling completely worthless and unlovable and the physical abuse was painful.  I wanted more than anything in the world for my Dad to love me and be proud of me, but I never seemed to figure out how.  The worst part of the abuse however, was the feeling of complete and total helplessness and out-of-control powerlessness.

This loving Light said, “Give me your grief.” I instantly I saw myself again as a five year old boy standing before a tall shelf.  Way up on the top shelf I saw a container marked, “Grief.”  I began to reach for it and stretch as much as I could.  It was no use.  I just couldn’t reach it.  I hung my head in complete defeat and tearfully told the Light, “I can’t reach it… I can’t reach it…”  Tears were running down my cheek and I felt that same sense of helplessness I had felt as an abused, helpless, unlovable little boy so many years earlier.

The Light gently spoke again.  It merely said, “I can.”  Then two long rays of light flowed out of the Light and swept down and took my grief and stroked my head and cheek and embraced me completely and totally.  Over and over these two rays of wonderful loving light hugged me and caressed me and stroked me and filled me with all the love and acceptance I so desperately craved from my earthly father as a little boy.  It was the most intensely powerful emotional experience I have ever had.  I am filled with tearful wonder and joy every time I think about it.

At no time during this experience did I ever stop breathing.  Later tests would reveal that I did not have a heart attack.  I have no plausible explanation for what happened that morning.  Eventually I would have 3 heart stents and a pacemaker put in my heart.  The awesome experience had taken only a few minutes of time.

This experience completely changed my life.  A few days later, I was back home driving down the Interstate highway pondering this amazing event when I asked myself, “I wonder what it all means and what I am supposed to do now?”  I no sooner got the words out of my mouth than I heard the same telepathic voice I had heard from the Light a few days earlier.  It simply said, “Grow!”  There was a slight pause and again the single word, “Grow!” spoken louder than before followed by a third and final commanding “GROW!!!” spoken so emphatically that I physically jerked in my seat.

I have changed so much since that day.  I was involved in a fundamentalist conservative religion that was adamant about who was and was not acceptable to God.  Now I have a more universal view of religion and can find no organized religion where I am completely comfortable.  I try to accept others as they are rather than how I think they ought to be.  I have absolutely no fear of death whatsoever.  I gave most of my clothes away and now dress and live a simple lifestyle.  I am not concerned with material things.  I try to help others when I can.  I still don’t understand what happened to me that day in 1999 but it was clearly a pivotal and defining point in my life.  I know few things with certainty anymore, but of this I am absolutely sure: death is not a life threatening condition!  I am also sure that what we call a “soul” is made of light and is drawn to light at the moment of our death.  We are beings of light.  This experience gave me an insatiable desire to learn all that I could about the quantum physics of light and the role light plays in our universe, both spiritual and physical.  The science of physical light fascinates me but the correlation of the similarities between physical light and God are remarkable.

When we think of physical light, the first thing we think of is the sun.  The sun weighs one thousand trillion trillion tons and the sun is the undisputed sustainer of life on this planet.  If current scientific speculation is accurate, the life expectancy of the sun is roughly another 5 or 6 billion years, after which it will become a greatly expanded red star engulfing nearby planets like Mercury and Venus and ending all life forms on Earth in a nanosecond of scorched misery.  It takes the sun’s light rays eight minutes to reach us here on earth, so if the sun burned out this very instant you wouldn’t know it for eight more minutes when you would immediately freeze solid.  We need the sun.  We need the light.  Physical light sustains our life.  Our physical bodies are held together by light.  The atoms in your body and bound by what quantum physics call the strong force which is made up of gluons, and gluons are a luxons (light) vibrating in the atoms of your body at light speed.

I am convinced that the sages of the world’s religions were correct when they posited that God is light.  Many of the world’s religions assert this, none more notably than the Christian religion.  I John 1:5 says, “God is pure light; without the slightest presence of darkness.  And James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who is pure Light with no shifting shadows.”   We humans are children of that light, “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God (Light)…” (Acts 17:29)  Light is the animating energy of all life, “For in God (Light) we live, and move, and have our being…  Every living creature with animated life – from the beetle to the butterfly to the bear - has the Light of God in it.  No other energy force in the cosmos is capable of animating life.

Light provides a myriad of benefits to life on this planet.  We are located exactly the right distance from the sun to be conducive to abundant life on our little planet.  A shift in our orbit around the sun in the slightest would produce catastrophic results in our lives.  In the vast expanse of the universe, it is naïve to assume that there are no other planets ideally situated near a similar star capable of sustaining some form of life.  Perhaps there are many

The Fundamental Work of Physical Light

You can make the universe very complex or you can break it down to simply this: the universe is made up of tardyon particles that travel slower than the speed of light, and luxons (light) that travel the speed of light.  Thus far, nothing has been found that travels faster than the speed of light.  Though it can never be at rest, light has zero rest mass.  Things that have zero rest mass do not occupy space.  All tardyons have rest mass.  In 1905 when the Theory of Special Relativity was published, a new way of understanding the universe was suggested.  Clear laws regarding mass in motion, time and space were laid down, but these laws applied only to mass particles.  An entirely different law was established for luxons which have no mass or weight and therefore do not take up space.  Photons are light.  Light travels at 186,000 miles per second (299,792,458 kilometers per second - fast enough to circle the earth seven times in one second).   This has been termed by some physicist as “the cosmic speed limit.”  Even at this speed, it takes light 100,000 years to cross our Milky Way galaxy.  The distant galaxy M87 in the Virgo cluster is 50 million light years away.  It is 18 billion light years to the furthest object we can see at present.  Practically speaking, light travels at the same speed all of the time.  It is the one universal constant against which everything else can be measured.  Light can turn into matter and back again into light with ease.  Quarks do so frequently in nature at the subatomic level of physics.

Light vibrates.  Each orderly vibration arises from a point of rest and goes up and then down returning to its resting position.  Each up and down cycle is called a sine wave.  The speed (number of times per second) with which these sine waves occur is called the light’s frequency.  Light comes in many frequencies and we divide these frequencies into the bands of the electromagnetic spectrum.  If we do not allow ourselves to think of all these bands as forms of light, we inevitably begin to think of all the forms (except visible light) in terms of the tardyon laws of quantum physics.  This is clearly wrong.  Remember our simple explanation: tardyons and luxons.  Tardyons are mass with weight and photons are light without weight.  If we say we have a parallel universe consisting of matter and light, people will accuse us of Star Trek Science, but in reality it is easier to keep things straight in our heads if we look at things exactly that way.  We must never let ourselves think of light in the same way we think of matter.  They are completely different in their behavior and their relationship to time and space, as well as the laws that define their behavior.

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center published an article on their website (http://www.imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov )  in which they say, “Radio waves, visible light, X-rays, and all the other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum are fundamentally the same thing.   This must never be forgotten: light is fundamentally the same thing as radio waves, or x-rays, or ultra-violet light, or electricity.    On the other hand, matter is matter; light behaves as light; matter behaves as matter.  While these two interact frequently, they maintain the integrity of the laws of physics that govern their behavior and define them.  Remember, light does not have weight and therefore cannot occupy space.  Further, it doesn’t matter how the light manifests itself from radio waves to visible light to gamma rays.  It’s all light… every time… in every instance.

Time does not exist at light speed.  The faster an object approaches light speed, the slower time passes.  This phenomenon is referred to as time dilation.  It is not possible for any matter with weight to achieve light speed because of the resistance of the object, but if it could, the instant it reached light speed all time would stop and the object would exist perpetually to infinity as long as it maintained light speed.  Since light does not have rest mass or weight, it travels effortlessly at the speed of light and therefore exists to infinity.

The electromagnetic spectrum is the way physicists describe the different manifestations of light.  We are just beginning to learn about light.  Albert Einstein published his Theory of Relativity just over a hundred years ago.  In galactic time, we’ve barely had time to take a peek at the universe.  Our grandchildren will live in a time when brave quantum physicists and astrophysicists will have dramatically revised the way we see and understand the universe.

We know that different creatures experience sound vibrations in different ways.  For instance, dogs hear sound frequencies that are higher than any human can hear.  Elephants, on the other hand, can hear frequencies lower than any human can hear.  Sea creatures like dolphins and whales often communicate over many miles by emitting high frequency sounds.  It is also logical that different creatures experience the frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum differently.  People who are referred to as psychics may very well be normal people who are able to experience a wider band of the electromagnetic spectrum than the rest of us.

Light is the fundamental substance of the universe.  It animates the entire universe with energy.  The famous Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell declared that electrical energy is just another form of light traveling at light speed.  Electrical energy is what provides your body with animation.  You move, and think, and feel, and smell and even your emotions are the product of a complex electrical system firing across nerves throughout your body.  Your heart beats because an electrical impulse tells it to.  Your lungs expand to breathe in air because an electrical impulse tells them to.  You have trillions of cells in your body made up of trillions and trillions of atoms.  Some of those atoms were once in the bodies of dinosaurs.  Your brain has about 100 billion neuron cells.  Neuron cells are different from all other cells because they have dendrites to bring information in through electrochemical impulse, and axons to send the information elsewhere.  You could say they are like little batteries that you charge up with information and then discharge to other destinations as needed. Neurons are the oldest cells in your body, and are used to transmit this electrical light energy.  Most of your cells regularly die and replenish with new cells created from stem cells, but you keep most neuron cells for your entire life.  If a neuron cell dies, it does not regenerate from stem cells.  These neuron cells contain chemicals that sit there waiting to be energized by electricity to be broadcast as electrochemical signals throughout the body to perform thousands of specialized tasks.    This incredibly complex electrical firing system regulates and controls your entire body – both your physical and your emotional response to the world around you.

If there is no light, the movement of all information stops.  That is why we can’t see a black hole.  The gravitational pull of a black hole is so powerful that anything crossing the event horizon of the black hole would need to travel faster than the speed of light to escape.  Since nothing travels faster than light, nothing escapes, not even light.  Therefore we can’t see the black hole because no light is leaving it to bear the information.  The most we can ever hope for is speculation based on the appearance of other heavenly bodies around what we suspect is a black hole.  In kilograms, the typical stellar black hole in space weighs ten times the weight of the sun.  (That’s a 1 with 31 zeros after it.)  The massive black holes that astrophysicists theorize are located at the center of galaxies weigh a million times the weight of the sun.  Furthermore, they are physical objects, and yet we can’t catch the slightest glimpse of them.

One of the most fascinating things the sun provides for us is a highway over which accurate and necessary information is passed.  Photons, the atomic makeup of light, are capable of bearing information across enormous distances while keeping both the order and the quantity of the information packaged on the light photons precisely as they originated.  If you look across the room at someone, you will receive their image on photons bearing the information containing their image and that image will not be a Pablo Picasso abstract with the mouth appearing where the ear should be, but rather an accurate cohesive image.  Others observing the same image will also receive an identical package of information across the light waves.  Furthermore that image will remain intact to infinity and can be seen from a billion light years away if sophisticated enough equipment could be produced.  Of course you would have to wait a billion years for the image to reach you!

Every second of our waking lives, we depend on light for millions of messages of information on packets of photons.  No information can pass in the entire cosmos without the aid of light and therefore light contains all knowledge, a quality we call omniscience when applied to God.  No energy can be exchanged between any two atoms in the cosmos without photons (light) making the exchange, therefore all energy (power) is in light, a quality we call omnipotence when applied to God.

Earlier, we broke the universe down to its simplest terms, tardyons and luxonss; now let’s do the same for the physical body.  It can be broken down to matter and light.  Matter makes up the physical body which must obey all the laws of quantum physics regarding particles with resting weight mass.  The light part of the body (the electrical system) is the part that provides animation and it has zero rest mass and therefore, it must obey all the laws of physics governing photons.

Remove the unified electrical field (the sum total of the light stored as electricity) out of your body and instantly, your body temperature will begin to fall. You will quickly assume room temperature just like every other inanimate object in the room that does not have a light field to animate it.  We know that the light field that animates your body is a unified field because that light field works in harmony, rather than chaos, in collecting, assimilating, and discharging light photons to perform the tasks necessary to function and survive in your surroundings.  We know what happens to the body when it loses its light energy at death.  It follows the rules of quantum physics and disintegrates in time to the simple atoms (mostly hydrogen) from which it originated.  But what happens to your soul – your inner light field that has been animating your body?

As we said earlier, whenever any type of light energy contains a unified field of information, it retains this unified field of information continually to infinity.  The information that rides on the photon light energy remains intact.  We can look into the night sky and see light from stars that died and went dark millions of years ago.  That light contains a “fossil” record of that star providing detailed information about that star from its size, distance, speed, rotation, and even its chemical makeup.  Whatever bundle of information that left on that starlight billions of years ago, is retained perpetually and still contains that same bundle of information.  This is important to remember.

In 1974 astronomer Carl Sagan, convinced that the mathematical probability was compelling that life existed on other planets, championed an effort to contact extraterrestrial intelligence.  The program that resulted, Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CETI), beamed a binary message composed by astrophysicist Frank Drake and Sagan toward the M13 star cluster 21,000 light years away.  Why would they choose this method of communication?  It is self-evident that these scientists understood that a bundle of information packaged on photon energy (like their binary radio signal) would reach a destination 21,000 light years away intact.  Sagan and Drake rested on the convincing argument from quantum physics that their signal would endure probably to infinity.  This same principle may apply to the photons bearing the information within our bodies that we recognize as our individual consciousness.  Though we don’t understand how or why, apparently intelligence borne by photons is cohesive, perhaps to infinity.  Would this mean that photons bearing intelligence are somehow attracted to one another to form a cohesive packet of intelligence rather than a random field of undisciplined noise?  Does the electromagnetic energy that bears information within the physical body follow this same law of physics?  Could it possibly also endure perpetually and cohesively when released from the physical body?  Could the sum total of human consciousness be equal to the sum total of the electromagnetic energy within the physical body?  Many individuals who have a Near Death Experience report an overwhelming urge to merge with the light which they describe as “all knowing.”  If the NDE subject’s individual consciousness is in fact made up of a field of electromagnetic energy bearing intelligent thought, perhaps the normal response would be for one field of intelligence to merge with another field of intelligence, just as one photon of Sagan’s binary code was attracted to another photon creating a cohesive intelligent message capable of perpetual existence.

The physical body, however, is not light but matter with weight/mass although it is held together by light (gluons).  At the instant of death the physical body begins to obey the laws of nature that demand it decompose into atoms that will become part of other forms of matter.  But what happens to that unified light field we call a soul in your body at death?  You soul is that unique bundle of light energy that you call your personality; containing all your knowledge, all your emotions, and all the electrical light energy that animated your body with millions of electrical charges every minute of your existence while you were alive.  It, too, must obey all the known laws of quantum physics regarding light.  It must remain unified or we must revise the laws of both quantum physics and Einstein’s Special Relativity.  This energy field we call a soul is the sum total of your consciousness and it must obey the laws of physics that dictate the behavior of light.  It must retain the integrity of the individual light field, holding all the information that it left with because that is the nature of light.  It will continue vibrating at the speed of light unaffected by the constraints of time, and continue to carry that packet of unique information perpetually to infinity.  This conclusion is neither religion nor superstition; it is science.

You are a unique person, with a body of unique knowledge and experience.  That uniqueness is captured in light, and is released in light at death.  It will remain your individual bundle of light energy to infinity.
